Leadership Program

General Information

The Latin American Board’s main activities center on its flagship project, the Global Competitiveness Leadership Program, in which young leaders from the Ibero-American Region are given a full scholarship to participate in a 12-week program at Georgetown University. The program draws on interdisciplinary faculty from across departments at Georgetown, including professors from the McDonough School of Business, the Walsh School of Foreign Service and the Georgetown College. The academic program also includes expert leaders from the Region focused on public, private and non-profit leadership.

Taking into consideration that Georgetown seeks to promote leaders who will make a disproportionate difference in the world, the Latin American Board has sought to align itself with this mission. As the University develops its identity as a “Global” University, the Global Competitiveness Leadership Program is a crucial component to achieve this goal.

In particular, the program hopes to prepare participants to understand barriers that impede development in their countries and to generate and support reform initiatives substantiated in new visions of integral development, carried out through applicable projects in the respective countries of participants.

The differentiating component of the GCL Program is a focus on action. Each leader is to develop a social project to be applied upon their return to their country. The GCL Program seeks to multiply its impact through its network of leaders in the Latin American region based on a social entrepreneurship model.

Mission

The Global Competitiveness Leadership Program (GCL) aims to provide a new generation of emerging leaders with the essential tools and a meaningful network in order to promote competitiveness, progress, and integral development in the Ibero-American region.

GCL Program Objectives

The LAB believes that the education and training of young leaders will benefit the academic, cultural, political and corporate institutions in their respective countries in the short and long term. Thus, the GCL Program has the following objectives:

  • Overcome challenges – Prepare participants to understand barriers that have impeded development in their countries and to identify critical issues relating to global competitiveness in the context of regional development.
  • Leadership in action- Generate and support reform initiatives substantiated in new visions of development, carried out through applicable projects in the respectivecountries of participants.
  • Raise awareness – Promote the importance of the region within Georgetown University.

Social Entrepreneurship

An important component that sets apart the GCL Program is that leaders must develop a project to be carried out in their home countries, whether they are in the social, private or public sector.

The greatest return on investment for our donors is the far reach of the program through its resulting projects executed by alumni to promote development in their countries. Participants go through a Project Development Seminar and are given guidance and feedback throughout the development process from the Program Coordinator as well as business, policy and social leaders who participate in the Program curriculum.
